France generates around 70% of its electricity from nuclear power. The UK is betting its entire new build programme on French technology and a French state-owned company. That’s not a coincidence; it’s the result of a decision made when Britain faced a hard truth: the domestic capability to build a nuclear power station had largely ceased to exist.

HPC is the first nuclear power station built in Britain in a generation. The supply chain around it is being rebuilt in real time. Many of them are learning their craft at HPC. Sizewell C, following the same template, is where that investment compounds.
If SZC didn’t exist, the workforce and supply chain developed at HPC would disperse when the project wound down. Reaching 24GW of nuclear capacity by 2050 means completing HPC and SZC, developing the SMR programme, keeping the existing fleet running as long as safely possible, and building the industrial infrastructure to sustain continuous construction.
